Hotel Bologna

Good location overall, close to the old city center and many of the attractions, train station, good connections to the airport. Some of the adjacent streets looked shady, so best to arrive at the hotel via the main street (Via Balbi) The room was quiet, spacious, clean, comfortable bed, a second pillow would have been nice to have. They do not have breakfast available, but there are many cafes nearby, perfect to start your day. No elevator for 4 floors, this was not a problem for us, but it is worth to note this info. Friendly staff, willing to answer all your questions.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel. I booked it through Booking.com, but when I arrived in Gonova, I found myself in a very unsafe environment. The alley leading to the hotel was frequented by drug addicts and dealers openly conducting their activities. The streets were littered with garbage and broken bottles, making it a concerning place to stay. I immediately expressed my concerns to the hotel staff, hoping for some understanding and flexibility, but they insisted on charging me a 90€ cancellation fee despite the circumstances. It was a disappointing and uncomfortable experience, and I believe the hotel should have been more responsive to the safety concerns of its guests.

Great location, super-friendly staff, very clean and quiet. This is a family-based hotel located in the heart of Genova's historical centre, close to the main train station (Piazza Principe) and the city's main bus lines. I am not sure why it is rated 2-stars only, perhaps because they do not offer breakfast/meals. However, this worked perfectly for me as I love a good Italian breakfast and the area is full of cozy bars where to eat.

The hotel unilaterally cancelled our reservation only days before the checkin date. The reason was that at 12:32 hours they tried to charge my credit card and the bank blocked it for security reasons as it came suddently from another country. I solved it with my bank at 12:37, literally 5 minutes later. In the reservation it says in the conditions that we will pay ON ARRIVAL AT THE HOTEL, however they tried to charge the FULL AMOUNT (not 1 EUR validation etc) by card days before the checkin, breaking the conditions booked. I called the hotel to solve this together but they were suddenly fully booked (in literally 5 minutes) and they yelled at me on the phone and blamed me for everything. They didn't accept any other card or to use the same card again either. I don't know if they are pure helpless staff that don't know how hotels work (and I do work in the hotel industry) or that they simply were overbooked and wanted a quick excuse to get rid of some unwanted reservations. I'll dispute this with the OTA, of course... Not acceptable.
